Canon Communications Unveils EMDT Portfolio for Europe's Medical Technology Industry

Los Angeles, October 14, 2009—Canon Communications LLC has announced the launch of a new publication and website for Europe’s medical technology industry. European Medical Device Technology (EMDT) and its www.emdt.co.uk website is a merger of the industry’s two leading, long-established publications European Medical Device Manufacturer (EMDM) and Medical Device Technology (MDT).  Combining the best of EMDM and MDT, the new EMDT will give enhanced coverage of the information the industry needs to design, develop and manufacture successful products. EMDT debuts in January 2010 and the website will go live on 4 January.

EMDT will be published 10 times a year in addition to the annual Source Book, the premier buyers’ guide for Europe’s med-tech professionals.  The EMDT portfolio also encompasses several electronic products, the English- and German-language medtechinsider blogs and newsletters, and the industry’s most comprehensive online suppliers’ directory at www.sourcebook.co.uk.

The EMDT brand has been structured to serve as a single source of medical device design and manufacturing information for engineers and other personnel in Europe’s medical device and diagnostics industry, explains Colin Martin, Group Publisher, International Medical Publications.  “This new publication and website reaffirm Canon's longstanding commitment to the medical device industry in Europe,” says Martin.  “With media becoming ever-more diverse, now is the right time for Canon to establish a single, clearly defined brand to provide our audience with all the relevant technical and product information and industry news they need to perform their jobs better."

The editorial content of EMDT will provide readers with comprehensive technical information on all aspects of the design and manufacture of finished medical devices.  The magazine also will report extensively on new products and services that allow engineers to develop and produce leading-edge medical products.  Industry news and other time-sensitive information will be distributed to readers via the medtechinsider blog and electronic newsletters.

“In developing the EMDT portfolio, one of our goals is to use the various media at our disposal to bring to our audience the information it needs in the most timely and effective manner,” says Group Editor, International Medical Publications, Norbert Sparrow.  “Breaking news and time-sensitive information will show up immediately on medtechinsider.com, medtechinsider.de and emdt.co.uk.  EMDT will provide context, in-depth technical articles and a variety of other resources that are better served by a print format,” says Sparrow.

“ Our new publication, EMDT, will continue our tradition of providing in-depth examination of a subject in a range of technical articles, which are our hallmark,” confirms Editor-in-Chief, Annie Ellerton.  “These articles will focus on materials issues, design breakthroughs, manufacturing processes and regulation.  As well as reporting application and design stories, the new EMDT will expand knowledge of the market place by giving sharper focus to suppliers’ products and services.  All this will be inside one publication, with the additional advantage of our portfolio of digital products, which will ensure the industry is kept informed and up to date,” says Ellerton.

By establishing a single source for all of our readers’ information needs, the EMDT brand also provides marketers in the supply chain with a unique opportunity to communicate with the widest available OEM audience, stresses Martin.  “It has only been possible to do that in the past through the annual Source Book.  Starting in January, the entire European OEM industry becomes available every month via print and digital distribution,” says Martin.  “This single dominant brand will deliver advertising messages to the widest and most comprehensive audience across the entire European community.”

EMDT is the sole official sponsor of the MEDTEC and OrthoTec Europe trade events in Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Ireland and Switzerland.
